Week 3

This first picture is of Lil'C working on her Alphabook. I am learning so much about her and how she learns. I have never thought of her as a squirmy child. But I have learned she does better with the language arts/reading lessons if she has something to do. So I ran of copies of the letter we are studying for each day. She decorates it with something that begins with that sound. In this picture, she is doing a rubbing of the bottom of her shoes onto the letter J for jump. Next week, letters T V W X and Y. Any creative ideas? ;D

Our next adventure took us to a cave. We went with our homeschool group. I did not do a head count but there were at least 30...50. Oh I am no good at guessing those sorts of things. It was a popular trip! We had a blast and learned so much. Lil'C, with her ever active imagination, pretended to be a bear looking for a place to sleep through the cave. She remembered this morning (4 days later) the terms stalagtite and stalagmite and what they meant. She also remembered that Native Americans lived in that cave. iPod was strapped on Mom, but managed to take it all in. After the tour guide showed us a rock that sounded like a drum, he tried to hit every rock and said "BOOM BOOM!" It was such a blessing to be the one to see the wonder on their faces in a totally new experience. After leaving the cave and having a picnic lunch, Lil'C and iPod played on the playground with each other and some of the other kids. They were totally pleased with how dirty the ended up after this adventure!

My little girl has loved all things China ever since the Olympics and since our cousin adopted her second little girl from China that same year. So when we saw tickets on sale for a Chinese dance show we knew just what to get for her birthday a while back! We made a small unit out of it. We started with a meal at a Chinese restaurant to eat with chopsticks. (She h
as eaten every meal since with them, including breakfast!) Then we put on her Chinese dress (hand me down from a friend) and found a do-able Chinese hairdo and went for a girls night out. The boys stayed home and ran trucks over a road made of diaper boxes. They both had an equally great night! We are following up this week with some lessons on The Story About Ping (a Chinese duck on the Yangtze River) and dad teaching her some of "Chopsticks" on the keyboard.

You can click on any picture to make them larger. Thanks for your support. See you next week!
